Reading/Language arts
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt "Journeys" is a story based language arts curriculum. As a supplement to the curriculum on Tuesdays and Thursdays students rotate through various stations with fun learning games and activities. The Kindergartners learn that letters have sounds and together those sounds form words, then they begin to use those words to form sentences.
Math
Harcourt¨ These are some of the things emphasized by this curriculum: creating repeating patterns and comparing objects based on their attributes, solving problems involving numbers, patterns and objects, solving story problems using manipulatives, sorting objects by color, shape, size, taller, shorter, heavier, and lighter, identifying shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle, hexagon, cone, cylinder ,and sphere), counting to 100 by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s, adding and subtracting numbers to 10, comparing objects; more, fewer, and same, identifying, writing and counting objects to 100.
Religion
Faith First is our curriculum but how we teach religion is more than our curriculum; it is a way of living. The children pray frequently throughout the day. Our daily living practices model a christian life, sharing love with others by making cards for others, good deeds, acts of service and many other things.
Social Studies
Harcourt "Our World Now and Long Ago" units are Being a Good Citizen, My Country, Workers, Where We Live, Time Goes By, and Stories of the Past.
Science
Macmillan/McGraw-Hill "A Closer Look" has engaging activities which promote curiosity and foster the development of science inquiry skills. Through a consistent and structured learning cycle, students confidently build upon their experiences to develop a lifelong understanding of science concepts.
Arts
Music
Our music teacher, Mrs. Malecha, meets with the students two times a week. The students develop an awareness of the elements of music through a variety of playful song, and rhythm activities. The students preform at an Advent/Christmas program in December and a spring concert in May.
Art
Art is taught as a way to express ourselves and our Catholic Faith. We participate in the National Endowment for the Humanitities's program, "Picturing America."
